Aug 10, 2024, 01:04 PM
Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has passed away at the age of 56 after a two-year battle with non-small cell lung cancer. Wojcicki was a pivotal figure in the tech industry, having joined Google as its 16th employee and later becoming the CEO of YouTube. She played a significant role in Google's early days, renting her garage to co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and was instrumental in the company's acquisition of YouTube and the DoubleClick acquisition. She also helped launch the AdSense program. Her tenure at YouTube was marked by significant growth and controversy, particularly around content moderation policies. Wojcicki is remembered for her contributions to the tech world and her advocacy for women in technology. Her passing comes just months after the loss of her eldest son. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Troper, and their five children.
