DOJ Seeks Google's Sale of Chrome, AI Opt-Out Measures
Nov 18, 2024, 10:32 PM
The U.S. Department of Justice, along with state attorneys general, is planning to ask a federal judge to force Alphabet Inc.'s Google to sell off its Chrome browser in an effort to break up the company's search monopoly, according to a Bloomberg report. The DOJ's antitrust officials have decided on this measure as part of a historic crackdown on one of the world's largest tech companies. In addition to seeking the divestiture of Chrome, the DOJ wants to impose data licensing requirements and implement measures that would allow websites to opt out of artificial intelligence applications. The department is also considering proposals to separate Google's Android operating system from its Google Play services. Google has responded, stating that the DOJ's proposals would harm consumers and developers.
