Gerrit Cole to Stay with Yankees on Original $144M Deal Through 2028
Nov 4, 2024, 09:49 PM
Gerrit Cole has decided to remain with the New York Yankees on his original four-year, $144 million contract, which he had initially opted out of. The Yankees had a deadline to add a fifth year at $36 million to his contract but chose not to extend it. Both sides have agreed to continue discussions on a potential contract extension. Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman stated that while the team was not comfortable adding another year to Cole's contract, they are glad to have him back. The decision coincided with the end of MLB's 'quiet period.' Cole's agent, Scott Boras, is expected to continue pushing for an extension. Cole's decision means he will stay with the Yankees through the 2028 season.
