Germany Halts New Military Aid to Ukraine, Plans 2025 Aid Reduction
Aug 17, 2024, 01:02 PM
Germany has decided to halt new military aid to Ukraine, as reported by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ). This decision comes amid budget constraints and austerity measures implemented by the German government. Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Finance Minister Christian Lindner have agreed to freeze all new funding requests for military assistance to Ukraine. Existing contracts will be honored, but no additional financial support will be provided. The German government plans to halve its military aid to Ukraine in 2025, reducing it from €8 billion ($8.7 billion) to €4 billion ($4.35 billion). The IRIS-T SLM fire unit, although available, will not be purchased.
