Germany Orders Six-Month Border Controls to Curb Irregular Migration
Sep 9, 2024, 02:27 PM
Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has ordered the implementation of temporary border controls at all of the country's land borders. The measures, which will come into effect from September 16 and last for six months, aim to tackle irregular migration, threats from Islamist terrorism, and cross-border crime. The controls will include both stationary and mobile border police measures, as well as the possibility of returning people across the border. The European Commission has been notified of these measures. Faeser's Social Democrats face upcoming state elections.
