Dec 27, 2024, 07:18 AM
Russian-born US businessman Gene Spector has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in Russia on espionage charges. The Moscow City Court found Spector guilty of collecting genetic and medical data on Russian citizens and transmitting it to the Pentagon. According to the Federal Security Service (FSB), the data was intended for the development of a genetic screening system for the Russian population. Spector, who was already serving a custodial sentence for bribery, was convicted of espionage against Russia. The FSB announced the conviction on December 27, noting that the nature of the charges had previously not been made public.
