Trump Urges Newsom's Resignation Over Los Angeles Wildfires That Killed Five
Jan 12, 2025, 11:02 AM
President-elect Donald Trump has criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom over the handling of the devastating wildfires raging in Los Angeles County, calling Newsom incompetent and urging him to resign. Posting on Truth Social, Trump declared, "The fires are still raging in L.A. The incompetent pols have no idea how to put them out. Thousands of magnificent houses are gone, and many more will soon be lost. There is death all over the place. This is one of the worst catastrophes in the history of our country." The wildfires have caused massive damage, with thousands of homes destroyed and at least five people dead. Trump reignited his longstanding feud with Newsom over wildfire management and water policy, accusing the governor of neglecting wildfire mitigation and mismanaging water resources. Experts, however, say that these disagreements are unrelated to the current disaster. Despite Newsom's invitation for Trump to visit the affected area, the president-elect has ignored the request. The fires have intensified tensions between Trump and Newsom, highlighting their historically contentious relationship.
