Annual report from the French Ministry of the Interior
France to Isolate 100 Top Drug Traffickers in High-Security Prison by Summer
Jan 13, 2025, 12:19 PM
French Minister of Justice Gérald Darmanin has announced plans to isolate the '100 most significant drug traffickers' in a high-security prison by this summer. This initiative aims to prevent these key figures from continuing their criminal activities from within prison. The move comes as part of a broader effort to combat drug trafficking, with French armed forces setting a record for drug seizures in 2024, capturing 48.3 tonnes of drugs. Additionally, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau reported a historic high of nearly 47 tonnes of cocaine seized over the first 11 months of 2024, doubling the amount from the previous year. This surge in seizures highlights the government's intensified focus on tackling drug-related crime.
