Florida AG Sues DOJ Over Blocked Probe into Second Trump Assassination Attempt by Ryan Routh
Oct 24, 2024, 03:47 PM
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has filed a lawsuit against U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice (DOJ), alleging that the DOJ is unlawfully blocking Florida's investigation into a second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach. The lawsuit contends that the federal government is preventing Florida from conducting its own investigation into the suspect, identified as Ryan Routh, who is charged in connection with the attempted assassination. Moody asserts that the state's sovereign interests are being impeded and is seeking a court order to allow the state investigation to proceed. The legal action was filed in the division of Judge Aileen Cannon, and Moody stated, "We don't believe the law supports that," expressing frustration at being "blocked at every turn" by federal authorities.
