Finland's Fortum Uses U.S. Nuclear Fuel at Loviisa and Olkiluoto to Reduce Russian Dependence
Sep 2, 2024, 11:37 AM
Finland's Fortum has initiated the use of nuclear fuel from Westinghouse Electric, marking a significant move to diversify its energy sources and reduce reliance on Russian supplies. The first batch of this U.S.-sourced nuclear fuel has been loaded at the Loviisa nuclear power plant, completing the first VVER-440 fuel reload. Additionally, the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Finland has also switched to uranium fuel sourced from Westinghouse.
