14 Democratic Lawmakers Urge Biden to Sign Draft Marijuana Executive Order Creating National Advisory Council Before Trump Takes Office
Nov 26, 2024, 03:08 PM
A coalition of Democratic lawmakers is urging President Joe Biden to take significant action on marijuana policy before he leaves office. The Drug Policy Alliance has drafted an executive order that would establish a National Advisory Council to Advance Equity and Public Health in Federal Cannabis Policy and Programs. This order would also mandate federal agencies to implement specific reforms. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Ron Wyden (D-OR), along with Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA), are among the 14 Democratic lawmakers who have called for Biden to issue this order and provide additional clemency for marijuana offenses. They are pressing for the administration to finalize plans that would limit federal marijuana prosecutions before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office.
