Mysterious Large Drones Over New York and New Jersey Prompt FBI Investigation
Dec 13, 2024, 01:34 AM
Multiple sightings of large, mysterious drones have been reported over New Jersey, New York, and surrounding regions, including Staten Island and near LaGuardia Airport, leading to public concern and prompting responses from government officials. White House spokesperson John Kirby stated that there is no evidence suggesting the drones pose a national security or public safety threat, and many of the reported sightings may be lawfully operated manned aircraft. However, some lawmakers, including Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, are urging federal authorities to provide more information and coordinate efforts to identify the drones. Representative Jeff Van Drew accused the Pentagon of being "incredibly stupid" in handling the situation and suggested possible foreign involvement, including Iran or China. The drones appear to avoid detection by traditional methods such as helicopters and radio, according to officials briefed by the Department of Homeland Security. The FBI is the lead agency in the investigation, and the Pentagon has indicated it is prepared to respond if the drones escalate to threaten U.S. military assets. Local police departments are also addressing the reports, and residents, some of whom have captured video footage of the drones, remain anxious about the unexplained aerial vehicles hovering over sensitive areas.
