A listeria outbreak linked to Boar's Head deli meats has resulted in eight deaths and nearly 60 hospitalizations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This outbreak, which has led to a nationwide recall of more than 7 million pounds of deli meats, is the largest since the 2011 listeriosis outbreak linked to cantaloupe. The CDC reported that new fatalities have occurred in Florida, Tennessee, New Mexico, and South Carolina. The U.S. Department of Agriculture inspectors found numerous violations at a Boar's Head plant in Virginia, including mold, mildew, and insects.
