Trump Eyes Deal to Repurchase DC Waldorf-Astoria Lease, Restore Trump International Hotel
Dec 14, 2024, 01:11 AM
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering a deal to repurchase the lease on the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Washington, D.C., with the intention of restoring its former name as the Trump International Hotel. The hotel, located at the Old Post Office building, was previously owned by the Trump Organization from 2016 to 2022. The property, which boasts 263 rooms including 35 suites and a 6,300 square-foot two-story townhouse, became a popular venue for Republican insiders during Trump's first term. However, its popularity waned after Hilton took over management and Trump ended his association with the hotel. Eric Trump has expressed interest in saving the hotel once again, stating, 'Our family has saved the hotel once. If asked, we would save it again.' The Trump Organization sold the lease in 2022 for $375 million to a group of investors, but the leasehold rights were later acquired by BTD & MSD Partners for $100 million at a foreclosure auction due to default on a $285 million loan.
