Thomas Tuchel Named First German to Manage England, Contract Starts January 2025
Oct 16, 2024, 04:10 AM
Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as the new manager of the England national football team. The Football Association (FA) confirmed his appointment, with Tuchel signing an 18-month contract starting on January 1, 2025, and running until the end of the 2026 World Cup. Tuchel, who previously managed Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich, will be officially unveiled at Wembley Stadium tomorrow. He becomes the first German to manage the England team. Anthony Barry will serve as his assistant coach. The FA had also approached Pep Guardiola, but the Manchester City manager has yet to decide on his future. Tuchel's salary is reported to be around £5 million per year, double that of former manager Gareth Southgate, but represents a £5 million pay cut from his salary at Chelsea. Lee Carsley will remain in his role until Tuchel's contract begins. Prince William shared a message of support for Tuchel's appointment.
