François Bayrou Unveils Recovery Plan for Mayotte, Promising Electricity Restoration by January End with 200 Agents and 200 Starlinks
Dec 30, 2024, 03:40 PM
French Prime Minister François Bayrou has unveiled a comprehensive recovery plan for Mayotte, following the devastation caused by Cyclone Chido. Bayrou emphasized that electricity must be restored to every household by the end of January, with a commitment to deploy 200 additional agents to assist in this effort. The plan includes the deployment of 200 Starlink terminals to ensure emergency telecommunications. Additionally, the government will mobilize the military next week to support local teams in restoring water distribution networks. A financing plan involving state-guaranteed loans from the Banque des Territoires will be established to aid Mahoran families. The government also plans to prohibit the reconstruction of shantytowns and will train 300 local gendarmes and auxiliary police to enhance security. The reopening of schools is scheduled for January 13, as normal conditions cannot be met before then.
