Trump Nominates Dr. Oz to Lead Medicare and Medicaid, Aims to Tackle "Illness Industrial Complex"
Nov 19, 2024, 09:16 PM
President-elect Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he is nominating Dr. Mehmet Oz, a renowned physician, television personality, and former Senate candidate, to serve as the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) starting in January. Dr. Oz, best known for hosting a long-running talk show, will oversee the agency responsible for administering health-care programs including Medicare, Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Affordable Care Act, which collectively provide coverage to over 150 million Americans. The appointment requires Senate confirmation. Trump stated that Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to address the "illness industrial complex" and combat chronic diseases in the United States. "America is facing a healthcare crisis, and Dr. Oz is the right person to help us solve it," Trump said.
