FBI: Ex-Disney Employee Michael Scheuer Accused of Hacking Menus, Removing Allergy Warnings
Oct 31, 2024, 02:19 PM
Michael Scheuer, a former Disney World employee who was fired in June for misconduct, has been accused of hacking into the company's restaurant menu system after his termination. According to a federal criminal complaint, Scheuer allegedly altered menu information to falsely indicate that certain food items did not contain peanuts, removing warnings for people with peanut allergies and potentially endangering guests. He also changed prices, added profanity to menus, and changed menu fonts to Wingdings, which is how the hack was first identified. The FBI investigated the cyberattacks, which cost Disney at least $150,000 and forced the company to take its menu creation program offline for over a week. Scheuer allegedly compiled a 'dox' list on former co-workers and reportedly stalked one of them. He denied any wrongdoing, claiming Disney was attempting to frame him.
