Ryan Garcia Retires at 25 After One-Year Suspension, Devin Haney Fight Ruled No Contest
Jun 21, 2024, 02:21 PM
Boxing star Ryan Garcia has announced his retirement at the age of 25 following a series of failed drug tests. Garcia tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug ostarine on three separate occasions, including tests conducted by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) and the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). As a result, Garcia has been handed a one-year suspension from boxing and will forfeit his $1.1 million purse from his victory over Devin Haney, which has now been ruled a no contest. Garcia has claimed that the positive tests were due to substance contamination and has expressed his intention to transition to the UFC. He will also send his forfeited purse to Golden Boy Promotions. Garcia went on a wild social media rant following the suspension and has pleaded with UFC President Dana White to sign him. Meanwhile, Devin Haney, whose loss to Garcia was overturned, has announced a break from boxing.
