Sep 26, 2024, 11:05 AM
Derrick Rose, the former NBA MVP and three-time All-Star, has announced his retirement from basketball after a 16-year career. Rose, who was the youngest MVP in NBA history and the 2009 Rookie of the Year, played for several teams including the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies. He expressed his gratitude to the game and his fans, stating, 'Basketball was and always will be my first love.' Rose also took out ads in multiple newspapers, including the New York Times, to thank the fanbases in the cities he played. The Grizzlies had granted Rose's request to release him from the final year of his contract earlier in the week. Rose looks forward to focusing on his family and pursuing new dreams in the next chapter of his life.
