Trump Picks Lead Attorney Blanche as Deputy AG, Bove as Associate Deputy AG, Clayton for SDNY, Sauer Solicitor General
Nov 14, 2024, 11:06 PM
President-elect Donald Trump is making significant appointments to his upcoming administration's Department of Justice. He is seriously considering naming his lead attorney, Todd Blanche, who has federal prosecutorial experience and has represented Trump in several criminal cases, to serve as the next Deputy Attorney General, a role that oversees the FBI and requires Senate confirmation. Trump also announced that Emil Bove, another of his attorneys and a former federal prosecutor known for his work against terrorists and drug traffickers, will serve as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General. Additionally, Trump has nominated Jay Clayton, former Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) during his first term from 2017 to 2020, to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), often responsible for prosecuting financial crimes and public corruption cases. Clayton's appointment requires Senate confirmation. Furthermore, Trump has selected Dean John Sauer, his personal lawyer who argued his presidential immunity case before the Supreme Court and former Solicitor General of Missouri, to serve as the U.S. Solicitor General.
