Daniel Penny Faces 19 Years in Prison for Jordan Neely's Subway Chokehold Death
Nov 8, 2024, 03:27 PM
The trial of Daniel Penny, a 26-year-old Marine veteran, continued in New York City court on Day 4 of the proceedings. Penny is charged with manslaughter, facing up to 19 years in prison, in the chokehold death of Jordan Neely on the F train in May 2023. Witnesses have described Neely's behavior as 'trying to attack everybody' and 'scaring the living daylights out of everybody' before Penny intervened. A 911 call played in court revealed that a witness believed Neely was 'trying to attack everybody.' A scared mother testified she barricaded her 5-year-old behind a stroller to shield him from Neely's 'unhinged' behavior. Another passenger, Caedryn Schrunk, thought she might die when Neely entered the subway car shouting, 'Kill me, lock me up.'
