SEC Files Lawsuit Against Consensys in Brooklyn Over MetaMask Operations
Jun 28, 2024, 04:54 PM
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a lawsuit against Consensys, the company behind the popular MetaMask crypto wallet, in federal court in Brooklyn. The SEC alleges that Consensys operated as an unregistered broker-dealer and engaged in the offer and sale of unregistered securities through its MetaMask platform. The complaint also claims that MetaMask Swaps generated over $250 million in fees and that Consensys sold unregistered staking securities in collaboration with Lido Finance and Rocket Pool. This legal action follows the Wells notice that Consensys received months earlier. The SEC is demanding a jury trial in this case.
