Germany Bans Right-Wing Compact Magazine for Inciting Hatred, Raids Properties
Jul 16, 2024, 01:36 PM
Germany's Interior Ministry has banned the right-wing extremist Compact magazine, citing its work against the constitutional order and incitement of hatred against Jews and foreigners. Authorities conducted searches in properties related to the magazine in four states: Brandenburg, Hesse, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt. The ban extends to the Compact's publisher, Jürgen Elsässer, and the associated Conspect Film GmbH. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated that the magazine is a central mouthpiece of the right-wing extremist scene. The publication has a circulation of 40,000 and has been criticized for spreading conspiracy theories about COVID-19 and climate change. The police raided the home of the editor-in-chief at 5am.
