Ukrainian Colonel Detained in Kiev for $1.2 Million Conscription Bribery
Aug 16, 2024, 09:48 AM
Colonel Serhiy Rusin, the head of the Boryspil Territorial Center of Recruitment and Social Support (TCC and SP) in Ukraine, has been detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on suspicion of corruption. Allegations against Rusin include taking bribes from Ukrainian men seeking to avoid forced conscription. Reports indicate that weapons and substantial sums of money, amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars and euros, were seized from him. The SBU claims that local recruitment officers in Kiev accepted $1.2 million in bribes, charging $37,000 per person. Rusin is suspected of obstructing the legitimate activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and abuse of office. The arrest was reported by the Volunteer Battalion of the Boryspil Regional Committee and involved US dollars.
