Genshin Impact Developer Cognosphere to Pay $20 Million and Block Children Under 16 from In-Game Purchases to Settle FTC Claims
Jan 17, 2025, 08:46 PM
Cognosphere, the developer of the popular video game Genshin Impact, has agreed to pay a $20 million fine to settle Federal Trade Commission (FTC) allegations. The FTC claimed that the company deceived players regarding the costs associated with winning in-game prizes and mishandled the data of minors. As part of the settlement, Genshin Impact will also implement measures to prevent children under the age of 16 from making in-game purchases without parental consent. The FTC highlighted that the game misled players, including children and teens, into spending substantial amounts of money on prizes with minimal chances of winning.
