Scientists Develop Microrobots to Treat Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Mouse Models
Jun 28, 2024, 02:04 PM
Scientists have developed innovative microrobots to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. These microrobots, made of biodegradable polymers and green algae, offer a targeted approach to delivering medication directly to affected areas, promising effective and less invasive treatment. The microrobots, coated with macrophage membrane, can absorb and neutralize pro-inflammatory cytokines without the need for drugs. Once ingested, they move around the colon distributing treatment. This breakthrough has shown promise in mouse models, potentially paving the way for new treatments for IBD. The research was published in Science Robotics.
