Cleveland Browns to Build $2.4B Brook Park Dome by 2029, Mayor Bibb Disappointed
Oct 17, 2024, 07:32 PM
After more than a year of negotiations, the Cleveland Browns have announced plans to build a new $2.4 billion domed stadium in Brook Park, Ohio, aiming to have it ready for the 2029 season. The decision means the team will leave their lakefront stadium in downtown Cleveland, their home since 1999. Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb expressed disappointment and stated that the city and county strongly object to the move, having hoped to keep the Browns as part of the lakefront vision. The Browns' lease at Huntington Bank Field expires in 2028, and owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam issued a lengthy statement explaining their decision after failing to reach a renovation deal with the city. The team is reportedly seeking taxpayer support for half the cost of the new stadium.
