Christa Deguchi has made history by winning Canada's first-ever Olympic gold medal in judo at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Competing in the women's 57kg category, Deguchi defeated South Korea's Huh Mimi to secure the gold. This victory also marks Canada's first gold medal of the Paris Games. Deguchi, who began competing for Canada in 2017, has become the first Canadian woman to achieve this feat in judo. Earlier in the day, Canada also won a bronze medal in men's synchronized 10m diving.
