May 31, 2024, 01:20 AM
Chris Kreider scored a pivotal shorthanded goal for the New York Rangers, giving them a 1-0 lead against the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This goal marked Kreider's first point of the series and tied him with Mark Messier for the most shorthanded playoff goals in Rangers' franchise history. It was also the Rangers' sixth shorthanded goal of the playoffs and second of this series. Kreider's goal came 2:04 into the second period after intercepting a pass from Matthew Tkachuk and finishing on a breakaway with a backhand shot, assisted by Mika Zibanejad. However, the Panthers quickly responded at 8:21 into the second period with Gustav Forsling scoring on a backhand shot, assisted by Sam Bennett, to tie the game at 1-1. This was Forsling's fourth goal of the postseason. The game remains tightly contested as both teams vie for control.
