Peru and China Strengthen Ties with New Joint Action Plan and Upgraded FTA, Says Xi Jinping
Jun 29, 2024, 03:30 AM
Peru and China have strengthened their bilateral relations with a new joint action plan signed during Peruvian President Dina Boluarte's visit to China. The plan aims to enhance political cooperation, investment, technology transfer, tourism, and exports. Additionally, both nations announced the substantial conclusion of negotiations to upgrade their 2009 free trade agreement, which began in 2018. The upgraded FTA is expected to boost economic ties further. China is a top investor in Peru, and the cooperation framework includes the Belt and Road Initiative, which both countries see as a model for Latin America. The agreements also include an MOU establishing a Peruvian-Chinese Business Council. The announcements were made on Friday, with Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasizing the importance of the partnership.
