VisitICE Deports 271,484 Immigrants to 192 Countries in 2024, Highest Since 2014
Dec 20, 2024, 01:32 AM
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 271,484 immigrants in fiscal year 2024, marking the highest level of deportations since 2014, according to a newly released annual report. This number represents a significant increase from the previous fiscal years under the Biden administration, surpassing the peak deportation numbers during the Trump administration. The deportations were carried out to 192 countries, with Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras being the most common destinations. The increase in deportations was driven by streamlined travel procedures and increased deportation flights, including to countries like China, which had not accepted U.S. deportations for years. The report also highlighted that 82% of those deported were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border, with a focus on public safety and national security threats. Of the 271,484 removals, 32% had criminal histories, and ICE made 113,431 arrests during the year.
