OpenAI's ChatGPT Search Now Free for All, Aims to Capture 1% Market Share by 2025
Dec 16, 2024, 09:15 PM
OpenAI has announced that its AI-powered search tool, ChatGPT Search, is now available to all users, including those on the free tier, marking a significant expansion of its capabilities. Previously exclusive to premium subscribers, this feature integrates web search functionality directly into the ChatGPT platform, allowing users to access real-time search results and interact with the chatbot in a more dynamic way. The rollout includes improvements such as faster search performance, better mobile experience, and integration with Advanced Voice Mode, enabling users to search the web while conversing with ChatGPT. Additionally, users can now set ChatGPT Search as their default search engine in web browsers. This move is seen as a direct challenge to Google's dominance in the search engine market, with OpenAI aiming to provide a cleaner, more conversational search experience. Google currently holds about 90% of the global search market share, while Microsoft Bing has around 4%. Analysts predict that ChatGPT Search could capture up to 1% of the search market by 2025.
