Georgia Court Disqualifies DA Fani Willis and Office from Trump Election Case, Citing Conflict of Interest
Dec 19, 2024, 03:15 PM
The Georgia Court of Appeals has ruled, in a 2-1 decision, that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her entire office are disqualified from prosecuting the 2020 election interference case against President-elect Donald Trump and his co-defendants. The court cited a conflict of interest arising from Willis's relationship with ex-special prosecutor Nathan Wade, stating that it caused a 'significant appearance of impropriety.' While the court removed Willis and her office from the case, it declined to dismiss the indictment, stating it would not take the 'extreme sanction' of tossing out the entire indictment. The decision leaves the future of the prosecution uncertain, and another prosecutor will need to be appointed to determine whether to proceed with the charges.
