Canada Soccer Appeals FIFA's Six-Point Deduction in Women's Olympic Soccer Over Drone-Spying Scandal
Jul 29, 2024, 02:36 PM
Canada Soccer and the Canadian Olympic Committee have officially filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against FIFA's six-point deduction imposed on the national women's soccer team. The points deduction is related to a drone-spying scandal at the Paris Olympics women's soccer tournament. The appeal argues that the punishment is excessively punitive towards the Women's National Team players. Notably, the appeal does not address the suspensions of the coaches. A decision on the appeal is expected around midday on July 31. Despite the deduction, the defending gold medalists still have a mathematical chance to advance if they beat Colombia on Wednesday.
