Canada Immediately Bans 324 Firearm Types, Proposes Gun Buyback and Donation to Ukraine
Dec 6, 2024, 12:01 AM
The Canadian government has announced an immediate ban on 324 additional types of firearms, as stated by Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc. This ban follows a previous prohibition in May 2020 of 1,500 makes and models, which grew to over 2,000 by November of this year. The newly banned firearms include assault-style weapons, which can no longer be legally used, sold, or imported in Canada. The government has also proposed donating these confiscated firearms to Ukraine to aid in their conflict with Russia, as Ukraine needs weapons. Defence Minister Bill Blair mentioned that the Department of National Defence will work with Canadian companies to facilitate this transfer. This move is part of a broader initiative to reduce gun violence in Canada, with the government urging action on gun control to honor victims of mass shootings and initiating a gun buyback program.
