Nov 4, 2024, 05:26 PM
Murray Sinclair, a prominent Indigenous leader in Canada who chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, died on Monday morning at the age of 73. A member of the Peguis First Nation, Sinclair was raised in the culture and tradition of the Anishinaabe people. He served as a judge and senator, dedicating his life to advancing Indigenous justice and advocacy. Born when Indigenous people did not yet have the right to vote, he helped lead the nation toward reconciliation by confronting its darkest historical chapters. Sinclair also played a role in banning whale captivity in Canada. Leaders across the country have expressed their condolences, honoring his legacy and commitment to creating a more just society.
