BYD Surges Past 2024 Sales Target, Outpacing Ford and Honda Amid China's Record EV Sales
Dec 9, 2024, 08:33 AM
BYD, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is on track to exceed its annual sales target of 4 million vehicles in 2024, having already sold 3.76 million electric vehicles (EVs). This performance puts BYD ahead of Ford and Honda in sales momentum. In November, China's overall passenger car sales rose by 16.6% year-over-year to 2.45 million units, with retail sales increasing by 16.5% to 2.423 million units. Notably, new energy vehicle (NEV) sales, which include electric and hybrid cars, accounted for 52.3% of the total, with 1.268 million units sold, marking a 50.5% increase from the previous year. Geely Holding reported a record high of 355,021 vehicles sold in November, up 21% from last year, with NEV sales surging by 61% to 176,000 units. In the first 11 months of 2024, Geely's sales surpassed three million units. Tesla, on the other hand, saw its highest monthly sales in China for the year in November, selling 73,490 vehicles, although exports from its Shanghai Gigafactory dropped to their lowest since June 2022.
