Nov 10, 2024, 12:28 AM
The West Coast Canadian province of British Columbia has detected the first presumptive positive case of H5 bird flu virus infection acquired by a human in Canada. The patient, a teenager from British Columbia, has been hospitalized. The source of the infection remains unclear, and confirming tests are pending. Health officials have not named any source of the infection yet. There has only been one prior human case of H5N1 documented in Canada, which occurred in 2014 in a traveler returning from China who died.
