49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk Requests Trade Amid Contract Dispute; 49ers Have No Intention to Trade
Jul 16, 2024, 05:33 PM
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade after contract extension negotiations that began in the offseason failed to progress. Aiyuk, who caught 75 passes for a career-high 1,342 yards and 7 touchdowns last season, has been seeking a long-term deal that would place him among the league’s highest-paid wide receivers. Despite his request, the 49ers have indicated they have no intention of trading him, pointing to similar situations in the past with players like Deebo Samuel and Robbie Gould, who also requested trades but eventually reached deals with the team. The 49ers hold leverage with Aiyuk under contract for this season and the option to use the franchise tag in the future. The Justin Jefferson deal has shifted market conditions, and the Steelers have shown interest in Aiyuk. Negotiations between Aiyuk and the 49ers have been stalled since May. Training camp for the 49ers is set to begin next week.
