FBI Uncovers 150 Homemade Explosives at Virginia Farm, Arrests Brad Spafford for Political Assassination Support
Jan 1, 2025, 02:28 AM
The FBI has uncovered what it describes as the largest cache of homemade explosives in its history at a farm in Virginia. Brad Spafford, 36, was arrested on December 17 in Isle of Wight County after a tip-off led to the discovery of over 150 homemade explosive devices, including pipe bombs, at his property. The devices were found scattered around the home he shares with his wife and two young children, with some stored in a detached garage and others in an unsecured backpack in a bedroom. The FBI also discovered a jar of HMTD, a highly unstable explosive, in a freezer alongside food, and a notebook with recipes for making explosives. Spafford, who was initially charged with possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle, allegedly used photos of President Joe Biden for target practice and expressed support for political assassinations. The Justice Department is currently opposing his release, citing the danger he poses to the community.
