Boeing Faces Major Strike in Seattle as 33,000 Workers Reject Contract, First in 16 Years
Sep 13, 2024, 02:13 PM
Boeing is facing significant challenges as its largest union, representing 33,000 factory workers in Seattle, has voted overwhelmingly to go on strike after rejecting the company's contract offer. The union argues that Boeing's proposed 25% pay raise is insufficient to keep up with the cost of living. This marks the first strike at Boeing in 16 years, with 96% of workers voting in favor, and is expected to cause further delays in the production of the 737 Max. Kelly Ortberg, Boeing's CEO, is under additional pressure to address this issue amidst other ongoing problems. Mike Boyd, president of Boyd Group International, notes that Ortberg has a lot more on his plate than just the strike.
