The outbreak has prompted the recall of seven million pounds of Boar's Head products since late July. The affected products were produced at a plant in Virginia, which has been criticized for numerous health and safety violations, including black mold and water dripping over meat. A food safety attorney has called for a congressional investigation into the outbreak, describing the plant as a 'listeria factory' and suggesting possible criminal violations.
