Hangzhou Team Unveils Black Panther 2.0, Robotic Dog Runs 100m in Under 10 Seconds
Jan 16, 2025, 01:44 AM
A Chinese robotics team in Hangzhou has unveiled a cutting-edge robotic dog, Black Panther 2.0, capable of sprinting 100 meters in under 10 seconds, marking a significant advancement in robotics. The robot, developed through a collaboration between Zhejiang University’s humanoid innovation institute and Hangzhou-based startup Mirror Me, weighs 38 kilograms, stands 0.63 meters tall, and achieves a peak stride frequency of five times per second. Utilizing innovative design elements inspired by animals such as black panthers and jerboas, the robot features spring-loaded knee joints for shock absorption, carbon-fiber shins for enhanced stiffness, and cheetah-inspired 'running shoes' that improve grip performance by 200%. The robot's development, completed in just three months, integrates AI machine learning to adjust its gait dynamically. Researchers applied Huygens' pendulum principle to synchronize its gait and aim to further enhance its mobility to potentially surpass living organisms in the future.
