Biden Calls Trump Supporters 'Garbage' After Puerto Rico Insult; Trump Responds
Oct 30, 2024, 01:14 AM
During a virtual 'Vote Latino' event on October 30, President Joe Biden condemned a derogatory comment made by a comedian at Donald Trump's Madison Square Garden rally, who referred to Puerto Rico as 'a floating island of garbage'. In his remarks, Biden stated, 'The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it's un-American.' The comment prompted criticism from Trump supporters and comparisons to Hillary Clinton's 2016 'basket of deplorables' remark. White House spokesperson Andrew Bates later clarified that Biden was referring to the hateful rhetoric at the rally as 'garbage', not to Trump's supporters. In response, Trump addressed the comment during his own rally, saying, 'Remember Hillary? She said deplorable... Garbage I think is worse. Please forgive him, for he not knoweth what he said.'
