AWS to Address Billing Issue After Empty S3 Bucket Receives 100M PUT Requests

A significant issue has been identified with Amazon Web Services (AWS) where an empty, private S3 bucket received approximately 100 million PUT requests in a single day, leading to a substantial unexpected bill. The incident was caused by a popular open-source tool that accidentally used the same bucket name. AWS has acknowledged the problem, stating that customers should not be charged for unauthorized requests they did not initiate, and promised to address how they will prevent such charges in the future.
