Australia Drops Legal Case Against Musk's X Over Church Stabbing Videos in Free Speech Win
Jun 5, 2024, 07:00 AM
Australia's eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman-Grant has decided to drop the federal court case against Elon Musk's social media platform, X. The legal proceedings were initiated over the circulation of videos depicting the alleged stabbing of an Assyrian church bishop in Sydney. The decision to abandon the case follows a setback last month when the Australian Court rejected the eSafety Commissioner's application to extend an injunction that would have forced X to continue blocking the content. The dispute also involved issues of global content removal authority after the Sydney church stabbing terror attack. The move is seen as a victory for free speech advocates.
