The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted emergency use authorization for updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines target the KP.2 variant, while the Novavax vaccine targets the JN.1 strain and is protein-based. The Novavax vaccine is authorized for individuals aged 12 and older and is expected to be available in pharmacies and healthcare facilities across the United States soon. These vaccines aim to provide better protection against currently circulating variants and are recommended for everyone in the U.S. aged six months and older. The FDA's decision comes ahead of the fall season, with a push to increase vaccination rates to prevent serious consequences of COVID-19, including hospitalization and death.
