Apple to Launch Wall-Mounted AI Smart Home Display in 2025, Challenging Amazon and Google
Nov 12, 2024, 08:37 PM
Apple Inc. is reportedly planning to expand its presence in the smart home market with the launch of an AI-powered smart home device as early as March 2025. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, citing sources familiar with the matter, the company is developing a wall-mounted display, codenamed 'J490,' designed to serve as a command center for controlling home appliances, handling video conferencing via FaceTime, and navigating apps using artificial intelligence capabilities, including enhanced Siri integration. The device is expected to feature a 6-inch touchscreen, a built-in camera for video calls, speakers, and will run a version of Apple's homeOS software. It will support Safari, Music, Notes, and several other Apple apps, but will not have an App Store. The primary method of interaction will be voice commands through Apple Intelligence's new App Intents. The device aims to compete with similar products from Amazon.com Inc. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google in the smart home market. These developments signal Apple's strategic push into the smart home arena, aiming to offer devices that leverage artificial intelligence and integration with its existing ecosystem.
