FIFA Deduces 6 Points from Canada in Group A, Bans Coaches Over Drone Spying
Jul 27, 2024, 05:15 PM
FIFA has issued a six-point deduction to Canada in Group A of the Paris Olympics women's soccer tournament due to a drone spying scandal. The deduction significantly impacts Canada's chances of advancing past the group stage and defending their gold medal, as they had the sixth shortest odds to win. In addition, FIFA has banned three coaches, Bev Priestman, Joseph Lombardi, and Jasmine Mander, from soccer-related activities for one year. The team has also been fined 200,000 CHF (approximately $226,000). The scandal involves Canada flying a drone over New Zealand’s training sessions before the start of the Games.
